MY BIO –

CRYSTAL ORDERSON

From Mitchell’s Plain in the Cape Flats, Crystal travelled the world for a decade, reporting from conflict zones in Africa, spent time in Dakar, Senegal before returning to South Africa to work in various media newsrooms. Orderson cut her teeth as a television and radio reporter South African Broadcasting Corporation, SABC and later as the Bureau chief based in Dakar, Senegal.  Orderson cut her teeth as a television and radio reporter for the South African Broadcasting Corporation, SABC and later as the Bureau chief based in Dakar, Senegal.  Orderson was also the regional editor for the pan African magazine The Africa Report, and has worked for Aljazeera English, Turkish Radio and Television, the Economist TV, ABC News.  She has also written for publications including The Guardian, Vrye Weekblad and Independent newspapers. Journalism has taken Crystal to countries like Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Libya, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, India, China, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Orderson was a Duty Editor at South Africa’s leading 24-hour news channel, eNCA based in Johannesburg. She is currently News Editor at Eyewitness News for the PRIMEDIA Group which includes 702 and 947.

Orderson is a regular contributor on African issues for 702 and has been interviewed by the BBC, SABC, eNCA and TRT World on African politics.

She is the holder of a Mandela Scholarship which allowed her to complete her MA in Gender and Media at Sussex University in the UK. Orderson also holds a B-Tech in Journalism from the Cape University of Technology and BA (Hons) from UCT and a post graduate diploma from Journalism school in The Netherlands. Orderson is a judge for the prestigious media award, the Nat Nakasa award for courageous journalism and is currently an African Leadership Institute, ALI fellow.

It is a small world after all. Globalization is that great process that started perhaps with Mr. Marco Polo, but has since regained its prestige after a short stint of protectionism following the great.
